Gefitinib is a highly specific anti-tumor targeted therapeutic drug developed by AstraZeneca in the UK. It is the first molecular targeted drug for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer. It plays a role by selectively inhibiting the signal transduction pathway of epidermal growth factor receptor tyrosine kinase (EGFR-TK).
FunctionGefitinib blocks EGFR signal transduction pathway on cell surface, hinders tumor growth, metastasis and angiogenesis, and can induce tumor cell apoptosis.
