This is the intermediate of ganciclovir, whose chemical name is 9 - (1,3-dihydroxy-2-propoxymethyl) guanine. It is a nucleoside antiviral drug and a guanine nucleoside derivative. It has broad spectrum and high efficiency in inhibiting herpes virus, and is the first choice for treating cytomegalovirus infection. It also has strong effects on hepatitis B virus and adenovirus.

Function

It can competitively inhibit DNA polymerase and incorporate it into the DNA of virus and host cells, so as to inhibit DNA synthesis.
Application

1. used for induction and maintenance phase of CMV retinitis in immunodeficiency patients (including AIDS patients).
